So that's what a leaf spring diff looks like! Interesting.

I don't think my diffs have breather hoses on them... not that that really matters right now 'cause I'm not driving it anywhere till I get a new front diff :P bah! Think there are just little caps on them.

Yes...you remove those little caps, and put on the hose. Which is what boggdeep has done, using my example in the projects, which i got from Goin-Off.

So the benefit of putting in a diff breather is for.... I'm assuming so the diffs don't get chock full of water and mud when you're driving through the sludge?

When a hot axle hits cold water it cools rapidly. This has the effect of lowering the air pressure inside the axle and the diff housing, causing air to be drawn in via the diff breathers. Extending your diff breathers higher up the chassis with plastic tubing is recommended if water crossings are likely. However, it is no guarantee that water will not enter your diff. The sudden reduction in air pressure inside your diff can still cause water to be drawn in via your axle seals if the diff breathers do not equalise the pressure quick enough.

You could also consider extending your transfer case and gearbox breathers as well, but if you are encountering water that high...you may have other things to worry about.

I know what you're thinking. "Did you annoy him six times or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a moderator, the most powerful admin in the world, and would ban your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky?....Well, do ya punk?
